Brighteners
Brighteners in plastic raw materials are chemical additions that enhance the appearance of polymers by absorbing ultraviolet (UV) radiation and re-emitting it as visible blue or white light. This conceals the plastic's yellowish hue, making it appear brighter, whiter, and more transparent.
Applications
Brighteners masterbatches are used in various plastic applications, including:
- Polyethylene (PE)
- Polypropylene (PP)
- Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)
- Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET)
Benefits
- Optical Brightening Agents (OBAs): Chemicals like Tinopal, Uvitex, and Leucophor that absorb UV light and emit blue light.
- Fluorescent Whitening Agents (FWAs): Chemicals like Fluorescein and Rhodamine that absorb UV light and emit white or yellow light.
- Phenylcoumarin: A chemical that absorbs UV light and emits blue light.
